Change is coming!

Enthusiasm is the yeast that makes your hopes shine to the stars. Enthusiasm is the sparkle in your eyes, the swing in your gait, the grip of your hand, the irresistible surge of will and energy to execute your ideas.

Henry Ford

Have you ever contemplated the blessings of change? Pondered on the gift that Father has given us of changing seasons, changing children (no, you can't trade them out for new ones, they grow and change, silly!) and changes is circumstances? It is a profound gift He has given to His children. Yup- change is comin' for sure!

I can feel the excitement bubbling all the way up in my veins as I consider the beginnings of another school year and the opportunity to teach. I do love to teach! It fills a void and connects me to Heaven like nothing else can. Just three more weeks and we will begin "school" at home once again. Biology, Algebra, times tables, long division and American History- oh, boy. Just 7 more weeks and I will go back to my classroom of sleepy eyed high school students at 6am, all of us seeking to teach and learn the gospel of Jesus Christ through the help of the Holy Ghost. This year we are studying the New Testament, and I can't wait! The energy in a classroom of righteous youth is intoxicating. I am truly blessed indeed.

Have you ever looked at change as a gift? There are so many blessings out there for us, we simply need to bring ourselves in tune with Heavenly Father and listen. He will show them to us.

Several months ago, President Henry B. Eyring spoke to us and encouraged us to try harder to recognize the gifts of God. He challenged us to keep a journal of the "hand of God blessing our family". He says:

"I wrote down a few lines every day for years. I have never missed a day no matter how tired I was or how early I would have to start the next day. Before I would write I would ponder the question, "Have I seen the hand of God reaching out to touch us or our children today?" As I kept at it something began to happen. As I would cast my mind over the day, I would see evidence of what God had done for us that I had not recognized in the busy moments of the day. As that happened, and it happened often, I realized that trying to remember had allowed God to show me what He had done.

More than gratitude began to grow in my heart. Testimony grew. I became ever more certain that our Heavenly Father hears and answers prayers. I felt more gratitude for the softening and refining that come because of the Atonement of the Savior Jesus Christ. And I grew more confident that the Holy Ghost can bring all things to our remembrance-- even things we did not notice or pay attention to when they happened. My point is to urge you to find ways to recognize and remember God's kindness. It will build your testimonies."

So, the seasons change and we begin another chapter of life. I started keeping a journal of God's kindnesses several months ago and truly, it has blessed my life. Some days it's been really hard not to whine, but I have committed myself to seek for the blessings of God and write them down each day. It has surprised me, what the Lord has done. (But isn't that what the hymn says will happen when you count your blessings?) And with the change of the season and the beginning of another school year, comes the irresistible surge of will and energy to execute my ideas. I can't wait!
